Part 2 – Windows Ninja Edition
Ever felt that your windows machine must have more cool features? I did, once.
Most people never use their windows computer/laptop to its maximum capacity.
In some extreme cases, many PC owners make the near fatal decision of switching to a Mac.
Before you dive into a downward spiral of losing your self respect (and 78% of your friends) by purchasing an Apple computer, please read this article.
Copy gives you 15 GB of free storage space when you signup. Furthermore, it’ll give you 5GB of additional free storage space for each referral you bring in.
Copy.com has an unlimited referral policy. This means you can even get 1TB of FREE online cloud space if you refer enough people!
Mega gives you 50GB of free cloud storage when you sign up. That’s right – 50GB!
Owned by former Megaupload mogul Kim Dotcom, Mega is a privacy focussed cloud storage provider that promises high-end encryption. I personally use Mega as my main cloud provider.
Google Drive gives you 25 Gb of free data when you sign up. It allows you to collborate with anyone you chose easilly – via a mobile phone or a computer.
I recommend that you use this as your default cloud storage for storing your app backups, word documents and spreadsheets.
When it comes to video calling, most people only think of Skype. Having being a part of 100’s of video chats in the last few years, I’ve found that Google hangouts scores slightly above Skype. That’s because:
1) You can easilly use hangouts on your PC or mobile phones. It just works.
2) You can save the entire video recording and upload it on your youtube channel.
3) You can host a hangout and get complete control over attendee beahvior.
If you have never used hangout before, I suggest you give it a try.
Ever needed to fix something in your family/client’s computer? Teamviwer is the only software you need to remotely access a computer from any part of the world.
Teamviewer creates a secure, private connection between 2 computers. At any point of time, a user can control the level of access the other person gets. It’s simple to use as well . If you know how to use MS Word, you know how to use teamviewer.
This is right on top of my must-have list. Bulk rename utility lets you rename a bulk of files with a single click.
It’s particularly useful for renaming pictures, music and video files that you transfer from your phone to your pc.
This is a must have software for anyone who uses windows OS.
Bugged by the slow speed of copying? Download teracopy right now. I’ll wait.
Done? Teracaopy tremendously increases copying speeds between 2 locations. Teracopy truly shines when used with external harddiks – where 100’s of GB of folders are simultaneously copied.
Unifed remote turns your smartphone into a remote control for your computer. You can control your windows computer directly via your android or iphone.
This app works in wonders while playing movies, music and presentations. Watch this 2 minute video to see how to use it.
My secret stash
You and I – we have something in common. As occasional night owls, we both hate the strain of the eerie blue screen at night. It messes with our sleep pattern and damages our eyes.
F.lux automatically makes the color of your display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day. I’ve been using it for 2 months now, can safely say that Flux does what it says.
Protip: Lux does the same for android phones. I promise you, it’ll change the way you use your phone at night.
Alright, this is a tricky one. I debated with myself on whether I should write about this tool. That’s because Nirsoft video cache lets you download videos right from your browser cache.
This means that you can download videos from anywhere on the internet. Yes, even from video platforms that don’t usually “allow” it. If you are an online video creator, you know how dangerous this tool can be!
Using these 10 offbeat windows softwares will give you the bragging rights to declare yourself as the tech ninja of your group. It will also, give you a chance to win arguments with mac users 😉 since all these tools are free!
Which is your favorite software from this list? Please tell us in the comments section below.
